NATURALLY

Solo Exhibition

Between my first two exhibitions (Sand, Sea and Birds and Naturally), I opened a live art studio in Lafayette, Colorado. I called it: The Hearth. Open to the public 3-4 days a week; I sold plants, art and writing supplies, gifts (including my nature-inspired mindfulness tools) and my paintings.

At the end of 2022 I tested positive for COVID-19. Unlike my family, I was very sick. I wan’t myself until late-spring. Putting my health first, I decided to close the studio. Once home, I needed a place to create so I emptied our garden shed and started painting. I went from 1100 square feet to 64 square feet in a week. This change presented its challenges but, in retrospect, it helped me reimagine my work. I experimented with smaller canvas sizes and new surfaces, such as wood panels and paper. I also started playing with ink.

Below is a sampling of cropped images from my second solo exhibition: Naturally. Of the 25+ pieces I displayed, you can see that a variety of techniques were applied. I painted a lot of birds again and I practiced refining two techniques called sgraffito and impasto and fell in love with the meditative qualities of ink.
