About Rebecca
"Art is my soul’s sanctuary—a place where I can explore, reflect and connect with the world in a way that words cannot. It grounds me in the present, heals what feels untethered and reminds me of the beauty of life." - Rebecca Lefebvre
Personal Statement
I’m a biophilic contemporary visual artist who works in richly textured mixed media and acrylics to evoke the tranquility and wildness of the natural world. Inspired by rugged landscapes, coastal shorelines and the soulful presence of birds and animals, my art blends organic textures with emotional depth, creating immersive experiences that invite calm and contemplation. My whimsical bird portraits and nature-based installations—such as Murmurations: The Dance of Starlings—reflect my love of capturing both the vulnerability and vitality of life.
My art is deeply informed by my experiences as a social worker and registered nurse. I often use nature as a metaphor in my work—it offers neutral ground where people can connect and find meaning without judgment. I have also found it encourages a more reverent, reciprocal dialogue; allowing for more reflective, respectful conversations.
With a background as a registered nurse and social worker, my creative practice is rooted in healing, resilience and authentic connection. I’m the founder of the Art & Wellness Institute, where I design workshops and programs to inspire wonder and creativity naturally. Since 2014, I’ve also self-published a series of nature-inspired mindfulness tools under the business name Avec La Vie that call upon fauna, flora, and fantastic beings to foster confidence, encourage self-healing and help others reconnect with the natural world.
A champion of conscious, purposeful living, I work from my garden studio in Broomfield County, Colorado, where I live with my husband, three children, three dogs, and a very fickle cat. When I’m not in the creating, you’ll find me walking about, tending to my garden or snowboarding through fresh mountain powder.
If you're interested in my work, would like to explore lessons or workshops, commission a piece or simply connect, I’d love to hear from you—please feel free to reach out via email.
Artfully Yours,
Rebecca Lefebvre
Artist Statement
My art explores two concepts: the beauty of the wild—rugged landscapes, curious creatures and those quiet moments in nature that make you feel something deep—and the human condition. Whether I’m layering textures in a painting, building a three-dimensional installation, or bringing a bird’s quirky personality to life, I love creating pieces that feel both grounded and a little magical. I’m especially drawn to texture and layers—not just for their visual richness, but because they mirror life itself. Each brushstroke, each material adds depth, just like our experiences do. Some layers are messy, some are soft, but together they create something honest and full of character. With a background in nursing and social work, I’m always exploring themes of healing, resilience and connection. My goal is to invite people into a space of calm and curiosity—where nature and emotion meet and a little wonder sneaks in.
My Style
My artwork is deeply inspired by nature, blending organic textures, layered color and expressive movement. I love to create highly textural pieces that invite touch and evoke a sense of depth and wonder. Whether through bold, flowing strokes or intricate details, my work captures the energy and emotion of the natural world.
My Preferred Surfaces
The surface I paint on plays a significant role in how my work takes shape. I enjoy working on high-quality watercolor paper, cradled wood panels and heavyweight canvas, each offering unique textures that interact with my chosen mediums in different ways. Watercolor paper allows for delicate washes and intricate details, while wood panels and canvas provide a sturdy foundation for building rich, layered textures.
My Preferred Mediums
I primarily work with watercolor, acrylics and ink to experiment with depth and definition. Watercolor allows me to embrace fluidity and transparency, while acrylics offer a more tactile, layered approach. Ink, whether bold and graphic or soft and intricate, brings a sense of elegance and fosters mindfulness. I enjoy combining these mediums to create dynamic, multidimensional pieces that feel alive yet organic.
Why I Create Art
Art is my way of exploring, understanding and connecting with the world around me. It’s a language beyond words, a space where I can express emotion, curiosity and appreciation for the beauty in nature. My creative process is both intuitive and intentional—rooted in a love for texture, movement and storytelling. I create to inspire others to pause, to feel and to find their own sense of wonder. Whether through my paintings, workshops or installations, I hope to spark connection, joy and a deeper appreciation for art as a means of self-discovery.
