Bring Murmuration to Your Space
An Immersive Art Installation for Reflection, Connection, and Collective Wonder
About Murmuration: The Dance of Starlings
Inspired by the breathtaking aerial displays of starling flocks, Murmuration is a three-dimensional, site-specific art installation created by artist, educator and founder of the Art & Wellness Institute, Rebecca Lefebvre. With hundreds of suspended birds crafted from paper, textile, and reclaimed materials, the piece embodies collective movement, the rhythm of community, and the healing potential of unity in motion.
Whether installed in a school atrium, a library reading room, a gallery space, or a museum ceiling, Murmuration transforms the environment into a dynamic space of awe, introspection, and engagement.
Artist Statement
“As a retired nurse, artist and educator, I am deeply interested in how collective experiences shape personal healing. ‘Murmuration’ explores how we find our rhythm together, how we belong to something greater, and how art can awaken connection. Each bird is a voice. Together, they are a dance.” — Rebecca Lefebvre

Why Murmuration Matters Today
From Local Movement to Global Awareness
Murmuration is more than an art installation—it is a living metaphor for how individual actions ripple outward into the collective. In a world increasingly shaped by climate change, social fragmentation, and digital disconnection, Murmuration invites us to pause, look up, and remember: we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
Just as a flock of starlings moves in sync—each bird responding to just a few nearby others—we too shape and are shaped by those around us. Our conversations, choices, and actions influence people we may never meet, as well as the plants, animals, and ecosystems we depend on.
This installation calls for a shift in perspective:
From hyper-local concerns to shared global responsibility
From isolation to interconnection
From passive observation to conscious participation
By gathering under a canopy of iridescence and motion, participants are reminded of our capacity to move together toward a more compassionate, sustainable future. Murmuration becomes a space where art activates awareness—of each other, our environment, and our responsibility to the generations to come.

Murmuration is not just visually striking—it’s intellectually and emotionally enriching. Designed to inspire curiosity, dialogue, and critical thinking, the installation serves as a springboard for meaningful, cross-disciplinary learning. In educational and community settings, Murmuration naturally weaves together science, art, social-emotional learning, and civic responsibility. It provides a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore complex ideas—like systems thinking, environmental interdependence, and the power of collective action—in ways that are both accessible and deeply engaging. By inviting participants to create, reflect, and connect, Murmuration becomes more than an art experience—it becomes a living curriculum for empathy, awareness, and responsible citizenship.
