When I created Deep Wind Rising, a piece honoring Haiti’s national bird—the Hispaniolan trogon—I had no idea where it would lead. Donated to Locally Haiti in support of their vital humanitarian work for over one million internally displaced people, the painting became more than art; it became a compass. In giving it away, I found a path I hadn’t known I was seeking.

This singular bird—vibrant, still, and deeply rooted in place—has become the launch pad for my newest project: Featherlight: Echoes of the Sky. This upcoming deck is a reverent exploration of birds as messengers, guides, and reflections of the human spirit. Each bird in the collection carries a word and a story—a whisper of meaning for those navigating their own transformations. The Hispaniolan trogon, with its quiet strength and jewel-toned grace, is the first of many wings taking flight.
